Crispy Oatmeal Cookies

Oatmeal Cookie Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup butter, at room temperature

1 cup sugar

1 tablespoon molasses

1 cup flour

1 cup oats

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 egg

1 tablespoon vanilla

1 cup chocolate chips

METHOD:

Preheat your oven to 375F.

Cream the butter, sugar, and molasses together in a stand mixer. Beat until well combined and "creamy". If you don't have a stand mixer, beat vigorously by hand in a large mixing bowl. Add the egg and vanilla to the butter mixture and continue beating until well combined.

Meanwhile, whisk the flour, oats, salt, and baking powder together in a separate bowl.

Gradually add the flour mix to the wet mixture, beating just until combined. Stir in the chocolate chips by hand.

Using a tablespoon, scoop out a ball of the dough and place on slightly greased cookie sheet. Flatten slightly. Repeat, leaving lots of room in between the balls for the cookies to expand. Bake for 15 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes then remove from the tray.

On Friday, April 15, our class make crispy oatmeal cookies. For this recipe, we were practising mise en place. The day before, Mrs.Gelowitz did a 'demo' of making cookies. We were showed that we had to make sure that we had all of our ingredients, tools/equipment, etc. out and ready to go. On the day of making the cookies, ours turned out really good! Carmella and I got all of our ingredients and tools out and started making our cookies. Everything went very well, until we failed to read one of the directions. We put the cup of chocolate chips in the mixer and mixed everything together, while the recipe says to mix them in by hand. Although, using the mixer to mix the chocolate chips in didn't affect how the cookies turned out overall. Our cookies tasted delicious, and there was lots of left over to take home! :)

FROSTING:

Frost brownies while they are still warm.

On Friday, April 1, 2011, we made brownies. They were by far the best brownies I have ever had. Our group had a little trouble getting everything organized for the recipe. When we melted the butter in the pot, then put the eggs in, the butter and pot was still really hot and the eggs pretty much got cooked. After that everything else went well. We put the brownies in the oven for 25 minutes. Making the frosting was a bit difficult, when we finished mixing everything together, the mixture was really dry. So we added water and the frosting formed better and turned our really good. Our brownies finished right before class ended, so we didn't have much time to try them out, because there was still a few dishes. Even though we were rushed, the brownies turned out really good and was definately worth it.
